Will you hold my transcript and not send it out until my degree or a specific grade is posted?

No, we cannot hold transcript requests for pending grades and/or graduation.

I have a hold on my record: can I receive my transcript?

If you have attempted to order your transcript and the request indicates that you have a hold that will not allow you to receive one, please be aware that some holds on your record will prevent us from processing your transcript request. If you are not currently an active student at UVA and you have a financial hold that is keeping you from ordering your transcript, please contact Student Financial Services to determine how you can resolve the hold. We also cannot process your transcript if the Honor Committee has placed a hold on your record.

Can you send just a portion of the transcript?

No, the transcript is a record of all academic work attempted at the University, it is not possible to segregate individual courses or semesters or to print only undergraduate or graduate work.

Electronic Transcript Questions

What is an electronic transcript and how does it work?

An electronic transcript is a certified PDF of your official transcript. Recipients of the official electronic transcript receive an email with instructions on how to retrieve the document from a secure web site.

Official electronic transcripts may be sent to any valid email address, but the recipient may not accept the electronic transcript. Please verify with the recipient(s) what is considered acceptable before placing your electronic transcript request.

How do I validate the electronic transcript?

These transcripts are official documents and have been digitally signed and certified by the University of Virginia.

The official transcript displays a blue ribbon on the notification bar across the top of the Adobe Reader. Older versions of the Adobe reader may display the blue ribbon as a pop-up screen and in the lower left corner of the frame of the application.

Valid Signature: When the blue ribbon indicates that the document is valid, University of Virginia's digital signature is true and authentic and the document's contents have not been changed or altered in any way.

Invalid Signature: If the blue ribbon indicates that the document is invalid, then the document should be rejected. The invalid status could be due to several reasons, such as an inauthentic digital signature or an alteration to the document. In all cases, reject a document that is invalid.

Author Unknown: If the blue ribbon indicates that the validity of the document is unknown, make sure the computer has an active internet connection. If there is a properly working internet connection and the digital signature cannot be validated, reject the document.

I attended the University before 1985. Can I receive an electronic transcript?

No, due to prior system constraints, we are unable to provide electronic transcripts for students who attended the University prior to 1985. You may request your official hard copy transcript online.
