Dear Student,

I hope the Thanksgiving break gave you a chance to gather with loved ones and rest. It has been an extremely difficult time for our community. I hope you are showing yourself some grace and receiving it from others. I write to provide more information about the special grading option that your dean approved for all graduate students this semester. Not all graduate schools are offering the special grading option; if you are a graduate student taking a graduate-level class in another school, please check with the school offering the class.

Your dean has granted the option for all graduate students to convert their final grades in the school to a special grading option after reviewing their final grades for the Fall 2022 term: Credit (CR)/General Credit (GC)/No Credit (NC). CR is awarded for a grade of middle C or higher and meets all degree requirements; GC is awarded for passing grades below C (including C-, D+, D, or D-) and meets any degree requirement that can be satisfied by a passing grade below C; NC is for a non-passing grade (that is, F).

From January 16 to January 20, you will have the opportunity to select any of your final grades in the school for conversion to CR/GC/NC. On January 16, you will receive an email with details about this process and a link you can use to make your choices. That message will include a link to information that will help you determine whether this option is beneficial for you.

We ask that you review your final grades and select any that you would like to convert to CR/GC/NC no later than 11:59 p.m. EST on Friday, January 20

I hope you are safe and well. If there is anything my colleagues and I can do to support you as we approach the end of the semester, please let us know.

Kind regards,
Laura Hawthorne
