Dear Student,

I am excited to welcome you back to UVA, whether you are studying on Grounds or remotely. You and other graduate students made an enormous effort in the fall to help keep UVA and Charlottesville as safe as possible. I know that wasn’t easy. Thanks to you, we are able to gather again, both virtually and, at times, in person to learn and grow together.

I write to you today with the following key reminders.

When is the deadline to choose the COVID CR/GC/NC grading option for my spring classes?

Like any normal semester, you can make changes to the grading options for your classes now until the last day to add a class, which is Tuesday, February 16. Later in the semester, beginning on Friday, April 23 until Friday, April 30, you will have another opportunity to change your mind about grading options

The deadline to make your final decisions about grading options and confirm those decisions are correctly reflected in SIS is Friday, April 30, 2021 at 11:59 p.m. Eastern Daylight Time.

See steps on how to review the current grading options for your class in SIS. Be sure to follow steps 8-10 to confirm your choices are correctly recorded in SIS before the deadline.

When is the last day to make changes to my class schedule?

  • The last day to add a class is February 16, 2021.
  • The last day to drop a class without a W is March 23, 2021.
  • After March 23 and until April 6, 2021, you may still drop a class, but the class will remain on your official transcript with a notation of W to reflect that you withdrew from the class later in the semester.

When should I update my mailing address in SIS?

We ask that you please update your mailing address in SIS when you return to Grounds for the spring semester. As you know, the University is conducting ongoing prevalence testing in its efforts to keep our community as safe as possible. We’ll be relying on your mailing address in SIS to conduct that testing, so please remember to update it if you leave the Charlottesville/Albemarle area for a period of more than 7 days (defined as Monday through Sunday). If you return to the Charlottesville/Albemarle area, you must update your mailing address in SIS again upon your return. See instructions on how to update your mailing address in SIS.

Again, welcome back! I hope you have a challenging, rewarding, and safe spring semester.

If you have questions or concerns, you may reach me at [email protected].

Kind regards,
