Dear Undergraduate Student,

I hope your semester is going smoothly and that you are both relieved and excited to reach its midpoint. I continue to be inspired every day by the creativity, dedication, and resiliency of our students, faculty, and staff as we work through the challenges of the pandemic together.

I write to let you know when you can begin enrolling in classes for summer and fall 2021.

Summer 2021

The summer session schedule of classes will be available in SIS on March 26. To view a preliminary list of summer 2021 courses, you can visit the Office of Summer and Special Academic Programs website

Starting April 2, you can check SIS to see your enrollment appointment date/time for summer session, and you can begin adding courses to your shopping cart. You may start enrolling in summer session classes the week of April 12, once your scheduled enrollment appointment time has begun. You will be able to make course enrollment changes, including selecting your grading option, until the session’s drop deadline. For more information about summer session drop deadlines, please visit the Office of Summer and Special Academic Programs website

If you paid full-time tuition in spring, you are eligible to take one domestic class in Summer Session I at no additional charge, as long as you have not accumulated more than 33 credits in the 2020-21 academic year (fall, J-term, and spring combined). For more information about this benefit for 2020–21, please see this list of frequently asked questions.

For all 2021 Summer Session classes, in addition to the standard grading options, undergraduate students have the option to change from a standard grade to a Credit/General Credit/No Credit (CR/GC/NC) grade. The University has compiled a resource with advising principles and more grading information to help you decide which option might work best.

Whether you choose Graded (A-F grades) or “COVID Credit/GenCredit/NoCre” when you enroll, you can change your grading option through the first day of class by using Edit Enrollment in SIS. If you wish to change your grading option after day one of a class you may do so through the mid-point of the class by completing the form on the Summer Session website.

Fall 2021

As University leaders announced in this week’s update, we look forward to an in-person residential and educational experience next fall. Next week’s update will include more details about what to expect.

Beginning on March 26, fall classes will be visible in SIS. On May 7, you can check SIS to see your enrollment appointment date/time for the fall semester, use the SIS schedule builder, and add fall courses to your shopping cart.

Fall enrollment begins the week of May 18. Once your enrollment appointment time starts, you will be able to make course enrollment changes until the Add deadline in the fall.

Students should meet with their advisors during the advising period in their school of enrollment to have their advising holds removed. Many advisors will not be available to remove advising holds during the week of course enrollment.

If you have questions or concerns about summer or fall enrollment, please contact us at [email protected].

Thank you again for everything you are doing to keep yourself and our community safe and well.

Kind regards,

Laura F. Hawthorne
Associate Vice Provost and University Registrar
