Fall 2020 FAQs for Community College Transfer Students

Will my class transfer and apply to my degree requirements if a grade of P+ is earned in spring 2020?

Courses receiving P/CR will be accepted for full credit. The Office of Undergraduate Admission will accept the GPA provided by the applicant's current institution and will not recalculate GPA upon receipt of a college transcript.

However, please note that the College of Arts & Sciences' academic departments determine student eligibility and acceptance to competitive majors. Please consult the undergraduate handbook on the department's website and contact the appropriate Director of Undergraduate Programs if you have questions about your eligibility to apply to a specific program within their department. No transfer student is guaranteed entrance into application-based majors and must enter the College with an alternative major in mind.

Can I still submit an application for admission?

Undergraduate applications should be submitted to the Office of Undergraduate Admission by October 1 for spring transfer admission and by March 1 for fall transfer admission.

When will I know if I am accepted?

Spring transfer admission decisions will be released by December 1. Fall transfer decisions will be released by May 1.

How will I register for my fall classes?

The University will provide guidance to admitted students during the summer months. It is important for admitted students to activate their UVA accounts and check their UVA email account regularly for University announcements.

Is my orientation cancelled and if so, what should I do?

When will I know if I get housing?

Assignments are made on a rolling basis as long as there are spaces available. Note that housing is not guaranteed. Visit the housing page for incoming transfer students for more information.

How is my housing assignment made?

A random computer-generated selection process held after the application deadline determines your order of assignment, which is then generated based on availability and your order of preference for each of the residential areas. Is it too late to apply for financial aid for the fall term?

No. We have passed the deadline for institutional need-based aid, but we will continue to award until funds are exhausted.

If my financial status has changed significantly, can I apply for more aid? If so, how?

Yes. Contact SFS at 434-982-6000 and explain your situation. If applicable, you will receive an Appeal for Reconsideration to complete and return with supporting documentation. The transfer financial aid application page has more information.

What if I cannot pay my admissions deposit when it is due?

Students may request deposit extensions, which will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis in conjunction with the Student Financial Services office.

Can I request an unofficial evaluation of my transcript to see how credits will apply to my prospective major? If so, how?

College of Arts & Sciences: The College does not provide unofficial evaluations of transfer credits for prospective transfer students. Admitted transfer students will be notified of their transfer credit report in the weeks following the Admission Office's receipt of their final transcripts. Students may refer to the College's Transfer Credit Analyzer to conduct their own unofficial evaluation of transfer credits.
